Interlibrary Loan service

What is Interlibrary Loan (ILL) and Document Delivery (DD)?

ILL = borrowing entire items from other libraries

DD = obtaining copies of specific parts of items

If you are an EUI member and you can't find the materials you need at the EUI Library, submit an Interlibrary Loan (print) or Document Delivery (digital) request. All requests must be directly relevant to the user’s research or, for staff, to their official role at the EUI.
Library staff collaborates with libraries around the world to obtain a print or electronic copy for you.

We can get you the following, with average delivery times*:

  • a print book : up to 4 weeks
  • a chapter of a book : up to 7 working days
  • a journal article : up to 7 working days

*Depending on availability with suppliers/lending libraries and on shipping and customs conditions, titles may arrive sooner or may take longer.

You will receive an email notification when your request is available:

  • Digital materials will be sent to your Library account
  • Print materials will be on hold for you at your designated pickup location

Fragile or rare materials may need to be consulted only in-house, if requested by the lender library.

If you are a library wishing to borrow EUI materials, please read the dedicated section
