External users

The EUI Library welcomes academic staff, postgraduate, and doctoral students from other universities who are not formally affiliated with the EUI. Access requires submission of an application form at least three working days before.

Who can apply?

Access & rules

  • To access the EUI Library you need to apply for access as an external user
  • The request must be made at least 3 working days before the desired access date
  • Confirmation and Wi-Fi credentials will be sent via email
  • Access is valid for one year from the date of application
  • Upon your first visit, pick up your Library Card from the Control Room (Monday to Friday, 09:00-12:30 and 13:30-16:00)
  • External users can use the EUI Library from Monday to Friday (8:30-22:30). No access on Saturdays and Sundays
  • Keep the Library Card with you at all times
  • All workspaces are available to all users
  • External users must respect Library Rules

Using the Library

  • Consult the Catalogue, EUI Library Search to find and locate materials. Most of the Library’s holdings are on open stacks
  • External users have no borrowing rights. Books can be borrowed through your home library via Interlibrary Loan
  • If a book on open stacks is missing from shelf, send an email to the Library
  • Books and journals marked in the Library catalogue as MAG or Storage are located in the Library’s closed stacks. To request these materials, please select Request books/journals from storage MAG on the form. You will receive an email when the item is ready for pick-up
  • The requested material will be available Monday to Friday after 11:30 on the working day following the request
  • External users have access to most licensed eResources when in the Library
  • Copyright laws and individual licence agreements must be respected when accessing eResources
  • Three PCs on the first floor are available to all External users who do not have their own laptop and EUI credentials
  • Internet connection is available via EUI-WiFi or via eduroam* if your home institution is a member

eduroam

External users connected via the eduroam network (global roaming wireless service for higher education) are not entitled to access the EUI Library’s licensed eResources. They can use one of the 3 internet-only PCs located on the first floor of the Library or they may connect to the EUI Wi-Fi network using the credentials provided when authorised to access the Library.
